New Laken Riley Act Changes Immigration Detention and Enforcement Requirements
The Laken Riley Act, now signed into law, requires DHS to detain undocumented individuals who have been accused of crimes including theft, assaulting a police officer, or other crimes that result in death or serious bodily injury. The Act also authorizes states to sue the federal government for certain federal immigration actions that harm states or state residents.

Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem Terminates the Recently Announced TPS Extension for Venezuela
Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem terminated the January 17, 2025 extension of a Temporary Protected Status (TPS) designation for Venezuela. DHS will revert to the October 2023 announcement that redesignated Venezuela for TPS and extended TPS status until September 10, 2025.

Covid Vaccine No Longer Required for Form I-693
USCIS waived requirements that applicants for adjustment of status to that of a lawful permanent resident present documentation on their Form I-693, Report of Immigration Medical Examination and Vaccination Record, that they received the COVID-19 vaccination.
