The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has announced critical updates regarding Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for individuals from El Salvador, Venezuela, Sudan, and Ukraine. These extensions provide much-needed relief to those eligible under TPS, allowing them to remain in the United States and continue their work authorization.

TPS El Salvador
DHS announced the extension of El Salvador’s Temporary Protected Status (TPS). The extension will run for 18 months from March 10, 2025, through September 9, 2026. The extension will allow those who have previously been granted TPS for El Salvador to register to continue living and working in the U.S.
TPS Venezuela
The status of TPS for Venezuela is uncertain. On 1/28/2025, DHS Secretary Kristi Noem vacated the 1/17/2025 notice that extended TPS for Venezuela. At this time, the TPS redesignation and extension guidance announced in October 2023 applies. In that announcement, DHS stated the reregistration period would be from 1/17/2025 through 9/10/2025, and TPS would be extended through 10/2/2026.Â
TPS Sudan
DHS will extend Sudan’s TPS for 18 months from April 20, 2025, through October 19, 2026. Eligibility for re-registration includes those continuously residing in the U.S. since on or before August 16, 2023.
TPS Ukraine
TPS for Ukraine will be extended for 18 months from April 10, 2025, through October 19, 2026. Re-registration is limited to individuals who previously registered for TPS under Ukraine’s designation. This includes TPS holders who are nationals of Ukraine (and individuals without nationality who last resided in Ukraine) who have continuously resided in the United States since on or before August 16, 2023.Â
If you or someone you know is eligible for TPS under these designations, it’s essential to stay informed about the application process and deadlines.Â
