In December 2018, Nicole Weitnauer joined the Antonini & Cohen team as an associate attorney. Although she was born in Lilburn, Georgia, she moved with her family to the Chicago suburbs at a young age. The warmer weather and her extended family lured her back to the Atlanta area where she attended the University of Georgia for her undergraduate degree. She then attended law school at Georgia State University.
Nicole’s passion for immigration law emerged during college as she shadowed an immigration attorney at Catholic Charities. After graduating from law school, she was awarded an Equal Justice Works fellowship to work at Catholic Charities Atlanta helping survivors of domestic violence and other crimes apply for visas. As you can imagine, this experience made an impact. Nicole saw the vast opportunities in immigration law to fight for justice while providing much-needed assistance to people who are suffering.
During law school, she also met Antonini & Cohen partner Carolina Antonini, who was one of her professors. Carolina quickly become a mentor for Nicole, guiding her through fellowship applications and career decisions.
After working as an immigration law attorney for six years, Nicole was thrilled when a position opened at Antonini & Cohen. “I relish the complexity and variety of cases,” Nicole says. “Every day, I learn something new while I’m helping a community of people that I care about in a field I love.”
When she’s not working, you might find Nicole enjoying a Cuban sandwich at Havana on Buford Highway, just down the street from Antonini & Cohen’s office. She’s also working on her bucket list. She and her husband are committed to hiking the entirety of the Appalachian Trail during their lifetimes. So they spend time together hiking and backpacking as a shared hobby that gets them ever-closer to living their dream. Welcome to the team, Nicole!
